Steam ID Lookup: Vanity Names, SteamID64, and Safe Profile Links

Resolve a Steam vanity name to its permanent SteamID64, understand Community identity, and share a profile link that survives name changes.

A handle is an address, not the identity

A Steam vanity name is readable and convenient. A SteamID64 is the durable identity underneath it.

That distinction matters when a profile URL is indexed, added to a bio, or used as evidence. Vanity names can change. SteamID64 continues to represent the same account.

steam.dawg.bot accepts either form:

  • steam.dawg.bot/gabe
  • steam.dawg.bot/76561197960384218
  • steam.dawg.bot/profiles/76561197960384218

The first two resolve to the canonical third form after Steam Community confirms the account.

What the lookup records

Dawg captures the public Steam Community profile and normalizes the identity fields it exposes:

  1. Persona name, vanity name, SteamID64, summary, avatar, and location
  2. Visibility, online state, account limitations, VAC status, and trade standing
  3. Membership date, recent two-week playtime, and public Steam groups
  4. Group size and live membership counts when Steam exposes them

Every successful response is stored as a durable provider snapshot before normalized fields and group entities are applied. The public frontend reads Dawg's stored projection; it does not call Steam directly.

Why old handle routes stay bound

The first confirmed vanity lookup creates a durable route binding to the account's SteamID64. Dawg never silently repoints that historical URL to another account.

This makes an old indexed link, forum post, or audit record keep its original meaning after a rename or handle reuse. For records that must survive any handle change, use:

steam.dawg.bot/profiles/<steamid64>

Public profiles are not ownership proof

Public Community data enriches the identity graph. It does not merge Dawg accounts or prove that a visitor controls the Steam profile.

Ownership remains a separate explicit proof. Steam OpenID can establish control later without confusing public discovery with authentication.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a SteamID64?

Enter the account's vanity name on steam.dawg.bot. The resolver confirms the Community profile and redirects to /profiles/<steamid64>.

Can a SteamID64 change?

No. A user can change persona or vanity names without changing this identity anchor.

Does steam.dawg.bot require a login?

No. Public lookups use the anonymous Steam Community profile. A Dawg account is only needed for owner controls.
